Operations director lists multi‑million dollar roofing, HVAC and housing priorities; board told state funding pending

Ross, the district's director of operations, presented a detailed facilities update that cataloged completed projects since 2020, current active projects (intermediate school canopy and roof work) and a prioritized list of capital needs for the next three years.

He told the board the district completed major HVAC replacements totaling about $5.877 million and intermediate and secondary roof projects (examples cited included a $6.5 million secondary school roof and nearly $5 million for the intermediate school). Ross identified remaining needs: completion of primary school roofing and weatherization, kitchen remodels at primary and secondary campuses, intermediate track repairs, transportation shop canopy and canopy/covering for fuel dispensers, replacement of worn windows and doors in housing units, and ADA parking improvements at the primary campus.

Ross explained funding sources and constraints: some projects are eligible for state facilities board (SFB) funding while other items are district obligations. He cautioned that major mechanical replacements (for example, HVAC units) are specialized and carry multi‑week lead times and material costs. He also outlined operating needs such as painting, asphalt and playground shading and said the district continues to seek SFB funding for roof projects with decisions expected in mid‑summer.

Board members asked about prioritization and available district funds; Ross presented a rolling priority list and said the order can shift if emergency repairs arise. No board vote on capital spending occurred at the retreat; the materials presented will inform budget planning and grant applications in the coming months.
