Governor Braun says no set deadline for Chicago Bears site; will decide on gas-tax extension before it expires

During a brief question-and-answer period after the traffic briefing, reporters asked Governor Braun about two separate matters: a possible site for the Chicago Bears and the timing of a decision on a gas-tax suspension.

On the Bears, the governor said there was no particular deadline and that, as far as he had heard, the team was focused on the Hammond site. "I've heard nothing other than what you've already known. Uh there's nothing that speeds it up to where we'll hear in a week or two," he said.

On the gas-tax suspension, the governor said he would decide whether to extend it "right before" the suspension would expire. He referenced recent events in the Middle East as having moved prices down, but said the situation had some volatility. "I'll make that decision right before I need to do it to extend it before the deadline would expire," he said.

The governor did not provide firm dates for either decision at the briefing.
