The St. Joseph School Board agreed on a format for an upcoming town hall that balances information-sharing and public input.
Staff will open with a short presentation on district priorities and finances, then the public will sign up to speak. Each person will have up to three minutes; if a question is presented during remarks, the board will "do our best to respond" after the three minutes are used, the board said in the training. The district will post details on social media and send an email to families.
Board members discussed other engagement models used by neighboring districts—presentations followed by small-group "stations" (finance, CIP, academics) and thought-exchange formats—but noted those formats create recording and audibility challenges for a formal board record. Members continued to favor the advertised town-hall approach with a sign-in sheet and a clear three-minute time limit to preserve order and allow multiple speakers to be heard.
Staff will provide the clerk with a sign-up sheet at the town hall and circulate logistics in advance; the board also discussed using rotating board responses (one or more trustees answering each question rather than a single member monopolizing comments).
