Prince George's County Board of Education swears in Sydney Mosley as 46th student member

Prince George's County Board of Education officials on June 26 ceremonially swore in Sydney Mosley as the district’s 46th student member, marking the start of a one-year term in which Mosley said he will advocate for student priorities and transparency. The ceremony, held before board members, administrators, family and guests, included remarks from Board Chair Brandon Jackson and brief remarks from Mosley.

Jackson introduced Mosley and praised his record of student leadership at Buoie High School, saying Mosley has been active in student government, community volunteer programs and the school's marching band. Jackson also noted the district will launch a new strategic plan on July 1 and said student voice will be central to its development.

"Transparency must be the heartbeat of every action taken by a public official," Mosley said in his first remarks as student board member, thanking family members, advisers and campaign volunteers. He told the board he plans to consider a wide range of stakeholder views and to use his role to connect students with district leadership.

Mosley identified himself as a rising senior at Buoie High School and thanked advisers Mr. Duba and Miss Miller and peers who supported his election. He also acknowledged outgoing student member Eric Educay for his service.

The installation was procedural and ceremonial; no board votes or policy decisions were taken during the event. The board concluded the ceremony with thanks to the office of the clerk of the circuit court and an invitation to refreshments and a group photo.

Mosley’s remarks emphasized process and engagement rather than announcing specific policy proposals. The board and district officials said the student member’s role will include advising as the district implements its strategic plan when it takes effect July 1.
