Suttons Bay council approves staff parking, refers Leo Creek culvert discussion to committee; consent agenda passed

The Suttons Bay Village Council on June 15 approved routine consent items, voted to reserve two parking spaces for village staff, and referred discussion of Leo Creek culverts to the General Service Committee.

Council member Yoder moved and Council member Chava Bahle seconded approval of the consent agenda, which included the May 18, 2026 meeting minutes and invoice payments; the motion carried with five ayes and two members absent. Earlier in the meeting, Council member Perkins asked that discussion of Leo Creek culverts be added to the agenda. Perkins moved and Bahle seconded to refer the Leo Creek culvert discussion to the next General Service Committee meeting; that motion carried (Ayes: 4, No: 1, Absent: 2).

On a separate item, Village staff member Larrea told the council the Administrative Committee recommended placing two dedicated parking signs for staff at the village office. Council member Chava Bahle moved and Council member Smith seconded to install two signs reserving two parking spaces and to include identified office hours on the signs; the motion passed with four ayes, one no vote, and two absences.

During public comment, K. Eike raised concerns about speeding on S Shore Drive, the lack of a sidewalk in Sutton Park, sprinkler spray encroaching on sidewalks, and snow removal responsibilities for sidewalks. Later, Council member Smith referenced Housing North and options for affordable housing such as property-tax forgiveness and asked for further discussion; she also noted the increase in tourist traffic and speeding on S Shore. Chava Bahle offered a closing public comment thanking volunteers and staff during the busy season. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
