Greensboro Parks and Recreation lays out summer events, youth classes and after-school registration

Greensboro Parks and Recreation announced an array of summer programs for families and adults and urged early registration for fall activities.

"We truly have something for the whole family," said Jennifer Hance, the city's community engagement coordinator, during an FYI Weekly interview. She highlighted one-time events such as an "all about lavender" class, an intro-to-sign-language session, a DJ workshop, gardening and a worm-composting class at Key Park Community Garden. Hance also noted weekly outdoor offerings on the downtown Greenway and encouraged residents to explore the city's more than 100 parks.

For children, Parks and Recreation will offer fishing-for-fun classes at Country Park and a range of youth sports. Adult-focused events include Adult Recess at Barber Park on Friday, July 10 (food trucks, a DJ, adult beverage vendors and games) and movie nights such as a Zootopia screening at Hester Park. Hance said the city launched a sunset music series at Lake Brandt with food vendors and live music.

Hance reminded listeners that after-school program registration opens Monday, July 6, and that fall-sports registrations are open through the third week in July. She said the department restored hours for lakes and recreation centers in response to community feedback.
