Greensboro requires high-visibility vests and closed-toe shoes at transfer station and White Street landfill

The City of Greensboro announced new safety rules for customers unloading items at the municipal Transfer Station and White Street Landfill.

Under the policy described on FYI Weekly, customers must wear designated personal protective equipment while in unloading areas: a high-visibility safety vest or reflective outerwear and closed-toed shoes or boots. The broadcast explicitly said no flip-flops or sandals will be permitted.

"Customers who arrived without required PPE may be denied access to the unloading area until you get the proper equipment," the program warned. The Transfer Station address was cited as 6310 Burnt Poppler Road and the White Street Landfill as 253 White Street; listeners were directed to the city's solid-waste and recycling web pages for more information.

The city framed the policy as intended to reduce injury risk from moving vehicles, heavy equipment, uneven surfaces and sharp objects commonly present at waste-disposal sites.
