Waterloo Mayor Dave Boesen invited residents to the city's "Red, White and Blue" fireworks extravaganza set for July 3 at RiverLoop Amphitheater, saying the event will open at 6 p.m. and that the fireworks will be launched from the Park Avenue Bridge at about 9:30 p.m. "Hi, this is Waterloo Mayor Dave Boesen inviting you to our fireworks extravaganza Red, White, and Blue on July 3rd," he said.
Boesen said two bands will perform before the fireworks: The Meanies at 6 p.m. and Birdchild at 8 p.m. He listed logistics for attendees, including public viewing bleachers on West Park Avenue and multiple parking sites: Waterloo Center for the Arts, the Young Arena, the Cedar Valley Sportsplex and nearby parking ramps.
The mayor outlined street and bridge closures tied to the display. Cedar Street from West Park to Forest Street will be closed for the event. The Park Avenue Bridge will close at 3 p.m. for fireworks preparation and will reopen before midnight; the 4th Street Bridge will close at 9 p.m. for viewing and reopen by 10:30 p.m.
Attendees were told to expect a variety of food vendors and several food trucks at the amphitheater and along West Park Avenue. Boesen also highlighted family offerings: free kids' activities beginning at 6 p.m., opportunities for children to help paint the Art Mall and coloring sheets available on site.
Boesen thanked the event's sponsors and volunteers, naming AECOM, Veridian Credit Union, PDCM Insurance, KWWL, 105.7 KOOKZ, Rock 108, KXGE, Main Street Waterloo and the Waterloo Center for the Arts. He offered special recognition to Shawn and his crew at the Culture and Arts Center and Jessica and her crew with Main Street Waterloo for organizing support.
The mayor closed by inviting the public to attend the fireworks program and noted the city is also hosting the American 250th Field of Honor Black Hawk County Celebration during the July 4 weekend.
The event details and closures listed by the mayor should be considered the official guidance in this announcement; attendees should monitor local channels for any last-minute changes.
