Chatham County sets FY2027 hearing schedule and adopts budget resolutions

At the June 26 meeting the Chatham County Commission approved revisions to the FY2027 millage hearing and adoption calendar and adopted several budget resolutions across general, special service district, debt service and capital project funds.

County management told the board that delays in receiving the digest required adjustments to the public hearing dates: first and second millage hearings were set for July 15 (9 a.m. and 6 p.m.), with a public hearing and adoption scheduled for July 31. The manager said the county would widely publish the new dates and notify the public.

The board also voted to approve itemized budget amendments and transfers presented at the meeting, including contingency transfers and capital project revenue adjustments. Commissioners cast votes on the budget resolutions in sequence during the action calendar; the manager described public details and said the county would publish explanatory materials and online lookup tools for residents.

Chairman Chester A. Ellis emphasized transparency and asked staff to make notices visible to the public and to commissioners. The board approved the calendar and the budget resolutions as presented; staff will follow up with public notices and one‑on‑one constituent assistance for any taxpayers seeking further detail.

Next steps: the county will publish the hearing calendar, post the FY2027 budget materials online, and hold the formal millage hearings in mid‑July.
