Grandview Heights superintendent, contractor detail demolition and site work at Stevenson Elementary

Andy Culp, superintendent of Grandview Heights Schools, and Jay Tadena of Elfford Construction gave a site update on progress at Stevenson Elementary, saying demolition is complete and teams are preparing the site for new foundations.

"If you haven't driven by, the site is surreal. It is absolutely amazing the progress that we have made," Culp said as he opened the third "hard hat" update. He introduced Tadena to outline the contractor's current work and next steps.

Tadena said the demolition contractor "has completely removed the existing Stevenson Elementary School that stood for a hundred years." He described ongoing removal of legacy foundations and said crews will install earth-retention systems along the west elevation to allow the site to be filled up to the engineered building pad where new foundations can be placed.

Crews have also mobilized at the athletics complex, Tadena said, and will begin excavation there. The team plans to relocate some of that excavated dirt to the Stevenson site "to fill what was the old basement," reducing the need to import material and speeding site preparation for vertical construction.

Tadena summarized the near-term plan as completing earth-retention and fill work, establishing the building pad and then placing foundations so the project can "start to go vertical with some pretty awesome buildings here in the future." The update did not specify a construction completion date or a formal project timeline.

Culp closed the update on behalf of the board of education, thanking Elfford Construction and viewers for following the third hard-hat progress report.
