Lee County MPO approves $1.6 billion five-year Transportation Improvement Program

The Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization Board voted to adopt a five-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) covering fiscal years 2027–2031, a staff presenter said, approving a program the presenter described as “$1.6 billion this time.”

The presenter, identified in the meeting as Don, told the board the program includes roughly $690 million for I‑75 and about $338 million for another major grouping of projects, and covers multiple categories including highway, bike/pedestrian, safety, transit, intermodal, routine maintenance and aviation. “It sounds bigger, which it is,” Don said of the total compared with the prior TIP, and noted some overhead Federal Highway figures were added into project totals as part of the update.

The board moved to adopt the TIP and conducted a roll-call vote; members voted in favor with no objections and the program was approved. The Chair said there were no public comments on the TIP item during the public hearing.

Why it matters: The TIP is the MPO’s short-term capital plan that programs federal, state and local funding for transportation projects. The large I‑75 and other high-dollar projects dominate the new program total, shaping short-term investment priorities for Lee County and the MPO’s coordination with state and district planning partners.

What's next: Staff said the TIP will reflect the updated page numbers in the packet and that ongoing project-level work and coordination with FDOT and partner jurisdictions will continue as projects move toward delivery.
