County election official seeks 75–100 more election judges, schedules July open houses

Jess Joseph, representing the County Election Commission, told the Ways and Means Committee June 22 that the office is confirming judges for the November general election and is recruiting additional election judges to reduce line length during what staff expect will be high turnout.

Joseph announced two recruitment open houses: Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. and Friday, July 24 at 9:00 a.m., and said flyers describing the events and the role of election judges will be circulated to committee members and posted on the county website. Joseph said the office currently has "just over 250" judges on the rolls and noted past numbers were 275 (2022, after cancellations) and 410 in 2024; the office hopes to add approximately 75–100 judges but acknowledged this is an ambitious target because service is a full-day commitment.

Committee member Marcia McCann requested the training dates and Joseph agreed to circulate flyers and details to members and post them online. Joseph also said the office will add voting booths at busier sites to help keep lines moving.
