Town Manager Billings briefed the Selectmen about a proposed agreement with CCI (Consolidated Communications) to expand fiber internet in parts of Stonington. TM said the contract mirrored a template used by neighboring towns and that CCI is slated to act as a provider of last resort to bring service to areas currently underserved.
Travis Fifield said he had not received the contract and asked TM to resend it during the Zoom meeting so he and other Selectmen could review the terms. The Selectmen did not adopt the contract that night and requested further review of contract timeline details and any potential costs or site‑work obligations.
Separately, Gordon Beck of Climate To Thrive presented a proposal for one or more electric‑vehicle chargers and described operating costs and mapping services that would make Stonington a destination for EV drivers. TM and the board asked for site inspections and for formal cost and installation proposals before moving ahead; no purchase or contract was approved at the meeting.
What happens next: TM will resend the fiber contract to recirculate to board members and will schedule a field visit with the EV proposer to inspect candidate locations.
