Township to restore parallel parking and widen sidewalk where bumpouts exist on Millburn Avenue

Omar Buckingham told the Explore board that the township is nearing a final decision to return a tested stretch of Millburn Avenue from reverse‑angle parking back to parallel parking and to widen sidewalks at the bumpouts. "It looks like the final decision will be to return to parallel parking with some adjustments," Buckingham said, and described an interim plan that uses temporary striping and flexible traffic posts to acclimate drivers before construction extends the sidewalk.

Buckingham said the change is limited to the areas where bumpouts are installed and that other sections of Millburn Avenue (between Millburn Avenue and Lacawana, as cited in the meeting) will remain unchanged until further notice. The board requested timing considerations to avoid high‑traffic periods and asked staff to follow up on implementation windows and community messaging.
