Briarwood Mall is positioning itself as a mixed-use neighborhood hub, combining retail, dining, green space and new residential units, Erica Chappell, the mall’s general manager, said on FYI.
Chappell described the center’s evolution as an effort to offer "something for everyone," noting that recent additions include the Harvest Market gourmet grocer and public green space called The Lawn. She said the mall’s retail mix now ranges from department stores to specialty shops and that new tenants are joining as leasing progresses.
On housing, Chappell said the Harlan—"a beautiful luxury 370 unit residential building with parking, parking garage for all the folks that live there"—is actively leasing and that first residents will move in in August. She described amenities including courtyards, pools and a dog park and framed the apartments as an intentional extension of the mall’s community offerings.
Chappell also previewed imminent and planned store openings: "DICK'S Sporting Goods opens next week," she said, and noted that L.L. Bean is expected to open in October. She added that additional tenant announcements will follow as leasing continues.
Chappell identified Simon (the mall operator) and Hines (a development partner) as organizations involved in the Harlan project and said the overall effort aims to marry retail, residential and public space to create a place where "you stay a while."
