House honors legislative staff and bids farewell to retiring members

The Delaware House of Representatives on June 24 passed House Resolution 27 by voice vote, recognizing June 24, 2026 as Staff Appreciation Day and inviting legislative staff to the chamber for formal thanks.

Whip Ozinski, sponsor of the resolution, said the institution “could not do our jobs without you,” listing podium staff, secretaries, pages and legal staff and noting their role in preparing bills, amendments and briefs. Multiple members rose to introduce and thank aides, pages and long-serving employees who stood as they were named.

The session also featured extended tributes to retiring members. Representative Kevin Hensley, who announced his retirement amid recent health challenges, told colleagues he had been “diagnosed with colon cancer just over 2 months ago. Successful surgery has been completed, and I'm on my way to full recovery,” and said he was stepping away to prioritize health and family. Colleagues praised Hensley’s constituent service and long record on joint finance.

Representative Charles “Charlie” Postals was also honored with remarks about his reputation, integrity and work ethic. Postals thanked his family and staff and reflected on his time in the House, saying he has tried to be a “statesman” and praising the staff that supported his work.

Representative Williams led a brief farewell for Justin, a staff member leaving the House to join the Delaware State Board of Education; members and staff acknowledged his service and wished him well.

The formal recognitions concluded with members thanking the Public Education Funding Commission staff and other behind-the-scenes employees whose work, they said, makes the legislative process function.
