Council to weigh request to allow more fueling pumps in CGS zoning district

Mayor John Haila told the podcast the council will consider a request to amend the City of Ames zoning rules that limit the number of fueling points for convenience stores in the CGS (Convenience General Service) zone.

“The point is ... council's going to be weighing, you know, that and the implications,” Haila said, adding that the request would add “at least three, four, five more fueling points than what our zoning ordinance allows.” He described the proposal as precedent-setting and noted council will consider equity across applicants and potential alternatives that could limit a change to a single location.

Haila said council members and staff will balance whether a one-off approval would be equitable or whether a zoning amendment would apply to all CGS properties in the city.
