Mayor John Haila said the council will consider a consent-agenda motion to approve a fireworks permit requested by Discover Ames for a July 3 display east of Jack Trice Stadium, with a rain date of July 5, as part of 250th-anniversary celebrations.
"We are going to be celebrating our 250th anniversary as a nation, and there's a motion to approve request from Discover Ames for a fireworks permit for display, and that's for the fireworks shot off east of Jack Trice Stadium on July 3rd with a rain date for of July 5th," Haila said on the podcast. He noted consent items are normally approved in one motion at the council meeting but can be pulled if a council member has a question or a conflict of interest.
The podcast did not record a council vote or any objections; the fireworks item was presented as part of the consent agenda preview, meaning the permit will be voted on as part of the grouped consent motion unless pulled for separate discussion.
