The Village of Saranac Lake Public Safety Building Committee on June 19 reviewed the history and status of the Public Safety Building Project, confirmed selection of Wendel as the project consultant and noted an approximately $4.5 million grant for the effort.
The review included the purchase of 33 Petrova Avenue as the preferred site and discussion of existing Fire Department facility conditions, ownership and future replacement of equipment, and prior conversations about forming a Fire District to govern or fund services. The committee recognized financial support from the Town of Harrietstown toward Fire Department operations.
Acting on procedural items, the committee requested that staff obtain demolition cost estimates for the 33 Petrova Avenue property and asked Wendel to present its findings and recommendations at the earliest practicable meeting to inform budgeting and design options. The committee also emphasized that prioritized direction from the Village Board will be necessary to set project milestones and make funding decisions.
In committee business, the members unanimously appointed Bob Testa as committee chair; the meeting minutes record that Jordanna Mallach was assigned to prepare a draft mission statement for committee review. The meeting adjourned at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Next steps: staff is to obtain demolition estimates, Wendel will be scheduled to present project findings, and the committee awaits prioritized direction from the Village Board to move the project forward.
