The Comal ISD Board of Trustees voted 6–0 June 25 to approve a 2026–27 interlocal agreement with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office to provide school resource officers across district campuses in Comal County.
Corby Wenderlich presented the agreement and said the sheriff’s office would assign 38 deputies to the SRO program, including roving officers to cover absences for training, transport, or leave. The agreement includes summer‑school coverage, defined SRO duties while on campus, and mandated state and district training.
Director of safety and security Vitus described enhanced, two‑way communication with the sheriff’s SRO division and said the county will provide supervisors to support on‑campus operations. “Each campus will have their own individual dedicated officer,” he said, adding that assignments will be coordinated with campus principals so officers get to know students and staff.
Several trustees and public commenters had earlier expressed concern about replacing existing Bulverde Police Department officers at affected campuses; President Courtney Biasotti noted the district provided detailed letters to the six campuses that would be affected and said no district employees are being fired as a result of the agreement.
Trustee Russ Garner moved approval and the board adopted the interlocal agreement by unanimous vote. The administration said it will participate in assignment decisions and oversee communication with families and local agencies as the sheriff’s office implements staffing.
