Comal ISD administrators presented preliminary 2026 STAAR (grades 3–8) and end‑of‑course (EOC) results at the June 25 board meeting, reporting that the district exceeded state and regional performance in most tested subjects and saw districtwide growth in college‑, career‑and‑military‑readiness (CCMR) and graduation rates.
Julie Cronkite told trustees that Comal exceeded both state and region performance in every high school EOC subject and that district high schools achieved gains across all tested subjects. Preliminary data show a reported graduation rate of 98.8% and a district CCMR score of 90 (an increase of 10 points from the prior accountability year).
Cronkite and Taylor Keller cautioned that grade 5 and grade 8 science results are not yet released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) — TEA has said those results will be released July 31 — and that House Bill 8 triggered an automatic rescore of some reading responses that will not be reflected in the current presentation. The administration said final A–F accountability calculations and distinctions will be completed in August.
Trustees asked about curriculum changes behind the improvements; administrators said the district implemented a new elementary math curriculum (Kiddom) and STEMscopes at the middle and high school levels and described campus‑level, question‑by‑question analysis that is driving targeted interventions.
