Fairfax County School Board unanimously renews superintendent’s contract through 2030

The Fairfax County School Board voted unanimously on June 25 to renew the division superintendent’s employment contract through 2030.

Chair Ms. Anderson moved the extension and multiple board members spoke in support, citing implementation progress on the district’s strategic plan and improvements in student achievement and operational performance. ‘‘Your willingness to continue this journey with FCPS ensures that our trajectory remains upward,’’ Ms. Anderson said in urging colleagues to approve the extension. Several board members, including Mr. Moon and Mr. McElveen, described the superintendent’s leadership during crises and in launching district initiatives.

Debate included discussion of executive compensation and transparency. One member noted the superintendent’s pay is comparable to other county executives while emphasizing that performance and accountability drive support for the renewal. Several members also noted areas for continued attention, such as whole‑board cohesion, more classroom visits and follow‑through on outstanding items from the strategic plan.

Dr. Reid thanked the board and said she was honored to continue serving, adding she looks forward to carrying the district’s strategic work forward. The vote was recorded as unanimous. The renewal formalizes the district’s leadership during the next phase of work on student outcomes, budgetary priorities and long‑term projects such as districtwide curriculum and facility improvements.

Next steps: the renewal takes effect immediately; board and superintendent staff will continue annual evaluation processes and report progress to the board.
