Commission backs resolution urging officials not to defund School of Conservation

At its June 25 meeting the Sparta Environmental Commission reported it unanimously passed a resolution asking state and federal officials to avoid defunding the Sussex County School of Conservation and to support the school's educational programs.

A commissioner said the resolution will be sent to the governor's office, the state legislative delegation and the township's congressional contacts, and encouraged constituents to write letters in support. "The more letters that are sent and written the better," a commissioner said, urging residents to contact state and federal representatives while public comment and decisions remain open at the state level.

The commission asked staff to forward event and outreach information for the Highlands Coalition hike and other School-of-Conservation activities to the commission's social channels so residents can learn more and participate.
