Chesterton ZBA sets July 23 public hearings for three preliminary variance petitions

The Chesterton Zoning Board set public hearings for July 23 on three preliminary petitions during its June 25 meeting.

Corey Faulk (Petition 2608) requested variances to reduce a sideyard setback to accommodate an existing bump-out and future addition roof overhang and to reduce a front setback to accommodate a 1970s porch. Building staff advised limiting relief to the specific addition and recommended language tying any variance to the particular work to avoid enabling future unspecified encroachments. The board and staff agreed to work with the petitioner to clarify the language prior to the hearing.

Petitioner Frank (Petition 2609) requested a 6-foot fence on a corner lot near the Boys and Girls Club, citing child-safety concerns; staff asked for pin stakes or a survey to confirm the lot line and proposed permit conditions for exact placement and measurement.

Mark Marovich (Petition 2610) requested a minor driveway widening and a small increase in lot coverage (to about 41%). Staff noted missing packet items (map of properties within 300 ft) and said revised findings to meet Indiana law were due by July 6.

The board recorded motions and roll-call approvals to set each matter for public hearing on July 23 and instructed petitioners to supply missing documentation and clarified variance language before that date.
