Selectmen accept low SHIP bid for Colwell ramp and approve hoist repair expenditures

The town accepted Skip Eaton's low and complete bid for the Colwell ramp/piers project under the SHIP grant; the engineer recommended the low bidder as meeting the bid package requirements.

Separately, Selectmen approved a $2,500 expenditure to install a new reduction tank on Hoist #6 to reduce the hoist's sudden jerking motion; TM and harbor volunteers had reported safety concerns and previous hoist damage. TM also described recommended decking and float repairs; one estimate for re‑decking three floats was roughly $12,500.

Why it matters: The pier and its hoists are critical infrastructure for local fishermen and buyers; timely repairs and a completed grant-funded project reduce safety risks and preserve the working waterfront.

What happens next: The town will execute the SHIP contract with the selected bidder, schedule hoist repairs and inspect floats and decking for follow-up work. Harbor Committee and PW staff will coordinate implementation and report back to the Selectmen.
