Several residents and city officials used the Xenia City Council meeting to press for attention to local parks and neighborhood impacts. Cole Patterson, a longtime resident, asked council to help resolve quality-of-life and safety concerns after an industrial neighbor sought an 8-foot fence with barbed wire that would back onto a residential dead-end street. Patterson said trees and shrubbery removed during earlier work left families exposed and requested council assistance to ensure new development does not diminish existing neighborhood character.
City staff addressed conditions at Shauny Park, reporting unacceptable restroom conditions and vandalism. The city manager said some parts must be ordered and that improvements were expected during July; staff have asked the police division for an incident and call report and will bring those data to the July 9 council meeting for further discussion. The manager also urged residents to report vandalism and unruly behavior to 911 so police can respond.
Council members acknowledged the concerns and said they will allocate time at the July 9 meeting to discuss park behavior, restroom maintenance and police data. Councilwoman Huffman and others cited parents' concerns about teenagers' profanity and unruly conduct and welcomed creative, community-based solutions to improve safety.
In response to public input, staff indicated they will pursue restroom repairs, coordinate with the police division on enforcement patterns and bring proposed operational or maintenance steps back to council for direction.
