Commissioners used the communications portion of the agenda to flag several community and staffing items. Staff announced that Miss Dorado will leave commission staff to work for Santa Barbara County; commissioners expressed appreciation for her work coordinating civilian oversight and meeting management.
Commissioners also discussed two recent public items: a report that a council member opposes filling certain vacant budgeted positions and a county grand‑jury report that concluded the city’s emergency operations center (EOC) is understaffed. Commissioner Hill asked whether the grand‑jury report is publicly available; staff said it is and offered to share it with the commission.
A liaison update described an expanded immigrant community leaders roundtable that will now meet monthly to discuss services, displacement and the impacts of federal immigration enforcement. Commissioners noted that an automated license‑plate reader (ALPR) report — covering how the city uses ALPR data and vendor relationships — is scheduled to return to the City Council in late August.
Commissioners discussed whether the commission should provide an official public comment to council during impending budget deliberations and agreed to follow up with the city administrator about the commission’s prior commitment to submit a statement.
