Montgomery County commissioners announced on June 25 that the county has been awarded $900,000 from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Program to support initiatives in the county's new housing blueprint.
The funding will be used for a mix of immediate and longer-term housing stability programs, the board said: rapid rehousing, emergency shelter support, homelessness prevention, case management, community development and critical repairs to existing housing developments. A commissioner said the award aligns with the county’s housing action plan and will help more residents secure and remain in safe housing.
The board introduced the county’s housing blueprint at a recent meeting as a strategy to expand housing stability, increase affordability and reduce homelessness. Officials said the blueprint is intended to coordinate county efforts with the state housing action plan published earlier this year.
Commissioners described the award as a first-step infusion of resources to scale programs and said staff will report back on allocations and planned uses as projects are finalized. The board highlighted the award as part of a broader set of community events and outreach connected to ‘America 250’ celebrations.
The meeting closed the discussion noting that further program-level details, schedules and specific provider contracts were to be developed by county staff and presented at future meetings.
