San Juan County commissioners approved intergovernmental agreements for purchase financing and maintenance of a municipal generator, accepted a Forest Service amendment to add multiple roads to the county's Schedule A, and set a July 8 public hearing to review the Cascade Meadows metropolitan district service plan.
On the generator, commissioners discussed financing structure and interest rates and moved to approve purchase‑ and maintenance‑related IGAs with the town. The motion passed by voice vote; staff noted the town hoped to have the generator in place before July 4.
Separately, staff presented an amendment to a Forest Service agreement adding Hotel Draw, Relay Lake Creek and Little Mus to the county's Schedule A roads for periodic maintenance; commissioners approved the amendment. Staff said that, pending final calculations, adding those roads could generate roughly $20,000 in Highway Users Tax revenue for the county.
The board also heard an introduction to the Cascade Meadows proposed 72‑unit subdivision and its draft service plan. Attorneys for the applicant explained that, if formed, the metropolitan district would provide water, sewer, roads and other services and would take required action under state statute; commissioners scheduled a July 8 public hearing and said notices had been mailed to property owners within the required radius.
Why it matters: The IGAs and Forest Service amendment delegate maintenance responsibilities and open possible funding avenues for rural road upkeep; the Cascade Meadows hearing signals an upcoming land‑use decision that will be decided in a public hearing.
