Superintendent reports on staffing, budget, transportation equity and construction progress

Superintendent Barb Schwamman provided a multi-topic update to the Riceville Community School District Board at its Jan. 19 meeting, covering staffing, budgeting, transportation equity, construction progress and upcoming committee work.

Schwamman outlined staffing and budget matters and noted her recent legislative meetings and committee involvement, including work on conference realignment and the IA Star Conference committee. She flagged transportation equity as an ongoing concern and gave a construction update. During the Building & Grounds portion of the meeting, staff reported work on the daycare playground and said fencing had been donated; the board planned a Building & Grounds meeting to follow up.

Schwamman also referenced weather-related considerations and reminded the board of a scheduled work session on Jan. 29. The superintendent’s update was delivered as part of routine district reporting; no formal action on the items she described was recorded at the meeting.
