Council permits park concession facilities and mobile vending in Riverfront Park and similar regional parks

The New Orleans City Council approved a zoning text amendment and an ordinance to permit park concession facilities and mobile vending within Riverfront Park and comparable regional parks.

Council considered zoning docket 4826, a text amendment to define park concession facilities as an accessory use in public or quasi‑public parks operated by or under contract with a public entity, and to set on‑site development standards. The City Planning Commission recommended approval and Council Member King introduced motion M26263 to approve the request.

On the ordinance calendar, Council Member King sponsored ordinance calendar 35,455 to permit mobile vending within the boundaries of the Riverfront Park consistent with governing leases. Presenter Mr. Crow told the council the change continues existing precedent for regional parks, allowing concession and food service in addition to normal park operations.

Council moved and adopted the ordinance with no recorded opposition; the clerk recorded six votes in favor on the ordinance vote.

Next steps: The amendment and ordinance were adopted and will be implemented under existing park leases and permitting rules.
