The Avondale Estates Board on June 24 adopted a resolution rescinding a prior authorization to pursue eminent domain for the property known as 143 Maple Street.
City staff explained that engineering and a development partner determined building the Washington Street extension on the 143 Maple parcel would be cost‑prohibitive; the required roadway extension can instead be built on property owned by the developer south of the site, removing the need for eminent‑domain action. The manager told the board the original resolution had authorized the city to move forward with eminent domain in the fall but that changed engineering conclusions and a developer offer made the action unnecessary.
The motion to adopt the rescission was moved by Graham and seconded by Mike; the chair called for a voice vote and recorded five ayes. No votes against or abstentions were recorded in the public record.
The board and staff indicated any related agreements or intergovernmental documents required to implement the alternative approach will return to the board for review.
