Donna Heler, director of parks and recreation, updated commissioners on the Ardmore Avenue Community Center construction schedule and related park work during the township’s June 24 CIP workshop.
Heler said the project is projecting "substantial completion early January 2027" with final completion targeted for Feb. 1, 2027, which would allow the township to begin using the building while punch-list items are finished through January. She cautioned that site constraints — regrading courts and building a retaining wall — create scheduling challenges but said "it is getting there" and staff are working with the contractor to keep momentum.
Commissioners raised concerns that an adjacent baseball field (project 6090) was not being maintained while under contractor control. Heler said the contractor remains responsible for maintenance during its control of the site and that staff expects the field to be returned in the fall.
Why it matters: the Ardmore Avenue Community Center is the single largest township capital project in recent history; its opening expands community recreation space and shifts maintenance and programming responsibilities to township staff once final completion occurs.
What happens next: staff will continue to monitor construction progress, manage punch-list items after substantial completion, and press the contractor to maintain leased or contractor‑controlled fields until they return to township stewardship.
