The Brentwood Parks & Recreation Commission voted to recommend Lindsay Peralt, executive director of Austin 17 House, for a voting seat and John Comry for an alternate seat on the commission. The recommendation will be forwarded to the select board for formal appointment.
Lindsay told commissioners she has roughly a 70% success rate writing grants and is interested in collaborating with the town on programming and facility access. John Comry, a Brentwood resident and electrician, said his priority interest is youth programming and that he would be willing to learn committee roles, including secretary if needed.
Commissioners also debated bylaws language for alternates and voted to amend recently adopted bylaws to permit up to four alternates; they were advised that any bylaw change and formal appointment still must be ratified by the select board. Commissioners said alternates are an important way to ensure quorum and continuity and discussed term lengths and maternity leave coverage for new members.
The commission will forward its recommendations and the proposed bylaw amendment to the select board for ratification; until that ratification occurs the recommendations are advisory.
