Akeley accepts LinnCo bid for trailhead parking; county match covers most cost

The Akeley City Council accepted the low construction bid for the Paul Bunyan Trailhead parking project and authorized the first contractor payment application to LinnCo Inc. Council members said the project is eligible for a $65,000 match from Hubbard County, leaving a small remaining city share after the match.

Bid and funding: LinnCo submitted the apparent low bid at $351,849.62 for parking and trailhead work. With Hubbard County's $65,000 match the council recorded a city remaining share of $5,639.92 plus additional Moore Engineering fees and related costs.

Council action: the council voted to accept the LinnCo bid and to approve Contractor Application for Payment No. 1 in the amount of $99,031.98 to LinnCo. The council directed that county match funds be used as previously committed and that Moore Engineering charges be paid from community project funds as necessary.

Why it matters: the parking-lot and trailhead connection are intended to support tourism and trail access for the Paul Bunyan Trail. The work also requires coordination with MnDOT on approaches and right-of-way.
