The Health and Human Development Committee accepted the mayor’s appointment of Dr. Carl Wilson to the Senior Citizen Service Fund board at its June 25 meeting.
Dr. Carl Wilson introduced himself to the committee and described a career that began with military service, included training as a clinical psychologist and a faculty position at Washington University, and 33 years leading a community mental health center that he said grew to more than 450 staff across several counties. "Our role is helping seniors to live independently and safely as long as possible," Wilson said, describing his work on the senior fund and his role as a past treasurer and grants committee chair for the fund.
Committee members thanked Wilson for his service and his willingness to continue on the board; members also noted that Wilson has served since the fund’s inception and that this appointment would be his third term. Following brief comments and a motion to accept the mayor’s nomination, the committee moved and seconded the appointment and the chair announced that Wilson had been accepted. The chair said the appointment will be presented at the board meeting on Friday.
No written testimony on the appointment was submitted to the committee and a scheduled presentation from the parks/recreation representative did not appear. With no further business, members moved, seconded and adjourned the meeting.
The committee did not record a roll-call tally for the appointment vote in the transcript; the chair’s announcement served as the committee’s formal acceptance and the matter will proceed to the full board for final presentation.
