At the June 24 Village Board meeting residents and trustees offered extended thanks and reflections for outgoing Trustee Kyle Hill and Deputy Mayor Zena Ugrinsky.
Several residents — including Carl Jansen and Bill Gata — credited Ugrinsky for financial improvements such as securing a clean audit opinion, establishing monthly financials, and shifting the golf course to an enterprise fund. Trustee Hill recounted board accomplishments during his term, including reconstituting the Public Safety Advisory Committee, passing a code change to improve high‑school drop‑off safety, installing additional street lighting, adopting a single‑use plastics resolution for village center events, and securing developer sidewalk commitments for walkability.
Deputy Mayor Ugrinsky said one of her goals was to ensure Port Jefferson had a voice in decisions about the local power plant and that the village had, over time, secured a seat at the table with LIPA. Both trustees said they will remain engaged as residents. Trustees and the mayor each offered personal tributes; Trustee Franco gave an extended personal appreciation of Hill’s mentorship. Those remarks were followed by the board’s procedural business and adjournment.
