The Dover Board of Education approved a series of routine administrative, curriculum and finance items at its June meeting, moving through minutes, vendor renewals, curriculum updates and capital projects in a single evening of business.
Minutes: The board approved the May 12 regular- and executive-session minutes and the special meeting on June 10. Several trustees abstained or recused themselves from the June 10 vote as required by law.
Administrative and curriculum approvals: Trustees approved administrative items 1–11 (which included the new summer youth sports clinics and discussions about testing the emergency virtual instruction plan) and curriculum items 1–9, which covered new curriculum reviews (including AP Computer Science A), agreements with postsecondary partners, and pilot programs such as a Spanish phonics K–1 pilot.
Finance and facilities: The finance committee reported ongoing work at Dober Bridge Academy (flooring and site work with completion anticipated in July) and completed smaller projects including a high-school courtyard planter and North Dover cafeteria lighting upgrades. The board approved finance and facilities items 1–34, which include capital projects such as high-school auditorium ceiling and lighting upgrades and East Elementary restroom renovations previously included in the 2026–27 capital budget. Administration recommended a reverse-bid highest bidder of $155,240 from Second Life Mac for purchase of MacBooks. The district’s COPS grant application was not successful this cycle; staff said they will pursue future opportunities, and a Special Olympics New Jersey Champion Schools grant of $7,000 was on the agenda for approval.
Personnel and votes at a glance: The personnel slate (items 1–31) passed. As moved by Miss Selenus, the board approved, among other items, a hand-carry resolution reappointing employee with ID 14375 subject to a corrective-action/second-chance agreement. During the personnel roll call two trustees (Miss Phillips and Miss Skates) recorded 'no' votes on item 8 while voting 'yes' on the remaining personnel items; one member recused or abstained on a separate listed item where required by law.
Why it matters: The approvals mark completion of end-of-year administrative housekeeping and move capital and operational projects into implementation. The recommended $155,240 MacBook sale/purchase and the capital upgrades advance district technology and facilities plans. The personnel approvals — including a reappointment tied to a corrective-action plan — and any recorded dissents are matters of public record for district employees and members of the community.
What's next: Several committee meetings are scheduled for summer and fall; construction milestones for Dober Bridge Academy and a planned open house on Aug. 8 were announced.
