During the June 24 budget workshop staff reviewed a portfolio of capital requests spanning routine maintenance to large corridor projects.
Key items cited: a bridge and drainage repair package that follows recent TxDOT inspections (staff cited approximate bridge repair figures in the low six digits), an Antonio Drive drainage concept that staff estimated preliminarily at $2 million–$4 million depending on final engineering, and a school‑safety sidewalk program based on previous study work that staff estimated around $7 million for broad neighborhood coverage to improve routes to schools.
Street maintenance and immediate capital: Henry presented FY27 street‑maintenance funding at $1.85 million and discussed mill‑and‑overlay and thermoplastic approaches; staff also listed short‑term capital such as bay‑door servicing, driveway improvements for fire station access and selective sidewalk repairs (anticipating up to $50,000 for routine repairs).
Funding and timing: Staff emphasized many capital asks are multi‑year; some line items will be pushed into later years and some will be funded from transfers into the capital fund. Henry said additional engineering, studies and design work remain before large projects would be bid and constructed.
Next steps: Staff will refine cost estimates, identify funding sources and present prioritization and phasing options at future workshops; no capital approvals were made at the session.
