Park Norwalk staff told commissioners they will temporarily close the Havlin Street parking deck from Aug. 3 through Aug. 14 to complete waterproofing and restriping work that cannot be done safely while the deck is open.
Brian, a staff presenter, said concrete repairs and a new stairwell are complete and the next phase requires a full closure to apply a waterproof membrane and restripe the facility for long‑term durability. "All Havlin permit holders will be cross‑honored at the Maritime Garage at no additional charge for the duration of that closure," staff said.
Commissioners asked about the financial hit of the closure; staff said they expect minimal long‑term revenue loss because parkers are likely to shift to nearby lots (Maritime Garage, Webster Lot, North Water Street lot) and on‑street spaces on Havlin Street. Staff noted prior small closures were mitigated by wayfinding and signage.
Staff also said they will notify area businesses and residents and deploy wayfinding signs to direct transient customers to alternate lots. No vote was required for the closure; the board discussed logistics and outreach steps.
Next steps: staff will continue community notification, finalize signage and operational plans, and monitor impacts during the closure period.
