Board authorizes president to arrange mowing; Sweet City volumes and large tire inventory reported

The Greene County Solid Waste Management District board authorized the district president to make arrangements with a nearby resident to mow district property in Sweet City at no cost to the district.

A board member described an offer from a local resident to mow and collect hay at the recycle center area, and the board voted to give the president authority to finalize the necessary arrangements. The motion to allow the president to make the mowing arrangements was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Staff provided customer revenue reports for the Sweet City facility, with daily averages and total customer counts for March through May. Lindy reported March numbers of about 983 customers (roughly 47 per day) and May totals showing approximately 1,213 customers over reported operating days; she also outlined daily-revenue averages for the periods covered. The board discussed planned holiday scheduling for county-observed holidays and approved a motion to allow schedule adjustments around the county holiday noted.

During matters from the floor, Kenny reported the facility’s tire inventory: 1,280 car and light-truck tires (many on rims), 30 semi super-single tires, 40 ATV tires and 75 lawnmower tires. Board members noted that collecting those tires reduces roadside pickup burdens for the county highway department and helps mitigate mosquito-breeding sites.

The board set its next regular meeting for July 29 at 9 a.m. and adjourned.
