Alderwoman Velasquez told the St. Louis Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee on June 24 that Board Bill 34 — a measure to install speed humps — required edits to protect residents’ accessibility needs and asked members to adopt two amendments before a final vote.
Velasquez said the amendments remove one location from the list of planned installations and ensure accessibility concerns are addressed. "Speed hump shall be installed on the 33 to 3500 block of Beth Avenue," she read from the prior language and said the committee should remove that wording in Amendment 1 to prevent installation at that location while accessibility issues are resolved.
The committee moved and seconded adoption of Amendment 1 and, following a roll call, the chair announced four aye votes and adoption of the amendment. The committee then adopted Amendment 2, which removes an exhibit referencing the revised locations, and later passed Board Bill 34 as amended with a do‑pass recommendation.
Chair Browning noted there were no members of the public present or online to speak on the bill. Velasquez commented after the vote that "the residents of the 6th will be very, very happy for their speed humps," reflecting the committee's view that the remaining installations respond to neighborhood requests.
The committee’s action was procedural: amendments were adopted and the bill received a do‑pass recommendation from the committee. No written testimony or public comments were recorded in committee for this item.
