Park board approves minutes and expenses; staff outlines $100,000 electrical upgrade and June 20 celebration

The Madison County Park Board opened routine business and approved the minutes from its April 22 meeting and a list of April expenses in voice votes with no opposition recorded.

In a staff report, an attendee described a planned two-phase electrical upgrade at Pavilion One. The staff member said the contractor (referred to in the meeting as "Quorum") will consolidate several north-side electrical boxes into one 240V box, replace multiple poles and connect midway-area boxes; a simultaneous south-side replacement is planned to reduce recurring shorting problems during high use. The staff member said the work will take about six weeks and estimated the cost as "at least $100,000." The presentation noted the timing is intended to avoid the 4-H Fair season.

Staff also said a short-term corrugated plastic sign will be placed at Fourth Street and Ninth, and that the office is working through LED sign procurement logistics. Facebook analytics shared at the meeting showed rising followers in the last 90 days, skewing strongly toward women ages 35 to 44. The staff member said meeting videos are being moved to the city YouTube channel.

Staff announced the Madison County 250th celebration will be held Saturday, June 20, and said organizers expect heavy attendance; staff estimated a possible 3,000 to 5,000 attendees and flagged parking as a likely issue.

Routine motions at the meeting were made and carried by voice vote; the meeting adjourned and members set the next meeting for Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
