Residents press board on hemp rules, LGDF funding, landlord maintenance and e-bike enforcement during public comment

A series of public commenters at the La Grange Park village meeting raised business, infrastructure and housing concerns that trustees acknowledged for follow-up.

Jim Kovlish, owner of Hop District Brewing, told trustees the recently signed Illinois Hemp Act will remove many synthetic hemp-derived THC products from retail shelves and, by November, will limit sale of intoxicating hemp-derived edibles and beverages above a 0.4 milligram-per-container threshold to licensed dispensaries. He said his in-house, lab-tested products and planned distribution into restaurants and venues could be curtailed and asked the village for any available support. The board did not respond substantively during the meeting.

Rob Council summarized a June 13 town hall with state legislators and said Representative Rasheed secured $250,000 for the village toward lead water-line replacement; he contrasted that with an estimated $23 million need for full replacement and asked how the village will disseminate and enforce new e-bike guidelines for teenagers.

David McConnell, a long-time resident, praised inspector Jose Nato for responding to maintenance complaints at Forest Glenn Apartments, described crumbling common areas and paint deterioration, and asked whether the village can do more than standard notices to landlords to secure timely repairs; he also requested repaving for Forest Road, which he described as an “obstacle course.” Village staff said Julie and Jose will follow up with Mr. McConnell, and the board recorded the concerns for further attention.

Separately, Bob Halib described repeated dog-fouling incidents at his property and thanked police officers Lopez and Garcia for assistance; staff indicated follow-up would occur.
