Three Girl Scouts who said they are former South Middle School students presented their Silver Award project at the start of the board meeting and donated lesson books and reading materials to the school’s music program.
Autumn Malia introduced the troop and explained the Silver Award requires identifying a community need and creating a sustainable project. Team member Jasmine Placito said the group originally hoped to raise funds for instruments but instead purchased instructional materials that would serve the greatest number of students, including lesson books used across instrument groups. "These materials are used regularly by students and are essential for learning and performance," Placito said.
Angelina De Jesus said the scouts hope the donation will support teachers and remove barriers to participation so more students can join band programs. Board members and staff took a photo with the scouts to recognize their work.
The presentation was brief and the board thanked the troop for their service.
