Director George Meservey read an advance copy of a Cape Cod Commission staff report at the June 23 Planning Board meeting recommending that the commission certify Orleans's 2025 Local Comprehensive Plan (LCP) as consistent with the regional policy plan.
Meservey said the staff report called the 2025 Orleans LCP "a thoughtful, rich, and visually vibrant planning document that articulates the community's shared vision for the future and actions to advance its goals," and noted the report recommended the commission vote to certify the plan. He said the LCP is the product of extensive work by town staff and community representatives and will guide Orleans over the coming years and decades.
Meservey told the board he and the chair will present the plan at the Cape Cod Commission meeting later in the week, where staff expected the commission to vote to certify the plan as consistent with the regional policy plan. The board reacted positively to the staff recommendation.
Certification by the Cape Cod Commission would confirm regional consistency and is a procedural step that can be important for later permitting and project review tied to the regional policy framework. The commission meeting where staff expects the vote was scheduled for the coming Thursday; the board did not take any formal local action at Tuesday's meeting beyond acknowledging the staff recommendation.
