Montgomery County commissioners voted June 22 to end the county's contract with its current IT provider and award a three-year managed services agreement to NetSource One beginning Oct. 1, 2026, and to add a full-time IT technician to the county staffing roster.
Commissioners said the decision followed a request-for-proposals process and staff interviews. The controller said the county's incumbent (referred to in discussion as VC3) had raised prices sharply and that an employee panel recommended NetSource One. The board authorized termination of the existing contract effective Sept. 30, 2026, and approved a NetSource One agreement to start Oct. 1, 2026.
The board recorded the contract amounts as $174,120 for fiscal year 2027, $171,725 for fiscal year 2028, and $178,588 for fiscal year 2029. Commissioners also voted to add a full-time IT technician to the staffing summary with an effective date of Oct. 1, 2026. The motion to terminate the incumbent, accept NetSource One's three-year bid and add the technician carried without recorded opposition.
Commissioners asked staff about the differences in year-to-year pricing; the controller explained the first year included a one-time onboarding fee. One commissioner said the county could still save money over five years despite the upfront costs, citing staff's assessment.
Next steps: the controller will complete contract paperwork and implement the staffing change on the Oct. 1 schedule approved by the board.
