Select Board approves Appleman Triathlon safety plan and permits event

Rotary representatives briefed the Select Board on the Appleman sprint triathlon, describing the course (half‑mile swim, 10‑mile bike, three‑mile run), a participant cap of 500, and local economic benefits. Organizers outlined safety changes from prior years following a bicycle run‑off on narrow Shaker Lane: the town will implement a temporary one‑way flow on Shaker Lane in the direction of Route 119 during the race, post officers at narrow or high‑risk turns (Nag Hill and Nova Road), limit some street parking with advance signage and mail notices, and station volunteers at every turn. Lieutenant Landry, the police liaison, confirmed the department will staff the course as recommended and that the camera of operational concerns would remain unrelated to event permissions.
