The Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee spent considerable time on repeated removal of 'slow down' yard signs and the town's process for approved signage. Members said signs placed to slow traffic keep disappearing; some reported seeing the litter crew or code-compliance staff remove signs, and others said residents may be returning signs to town hall.
Chair explained that Councilman Ray Garcia has consulted with the town attorney and helped draft a memorandum. The proposed ordinance would allow committees to place town‑sanctioned signs in swales if the council approves the specific placement and language; the committee was told the ordinance should receive a first reading in July. Committee members recommended a focused public-education effort and agreed to pause bulk distribution of signs until the ordinance clarifies placement rules.
Members asked staff to follow up with Public Works Director Omar to determine whether town workers or residents are picking up signs and to coordinate a short public guidance sheet to accompany any sign distribution. The committee also planned to encourage members to attend the July council meeting to support the ordinance.
