The DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections voted to approve early-voting locations and hours for the July 28 Congressional District 13 special election and to adopt a potential early-voting schedule for a runoff.
Staff recommended one early-voting location for the special election: Countyline Ellenwood Library. For the July 28 special election the board approved early-voting dates of July 6'24 with proposed weekday hours and two weekend voting dates: Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sundays (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.) as listed in the packet.
For a potential runoff the board approved a one-week early-voting window of Aug. 15'21 and added a weekend (Aug. 15'16) with Saturday hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday hours 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; members emphasized consistency of hours across elections and asked staff to consider uniform Sunday closing times going forward.
Deputy Director Henry clarified geographic coverage, saying the four precincts in CD'13 in DeKalb are unincorporated and lie on the lower southeast side of the county. Board members and staff discussed trade-offs between staffing capacity and voter convenience when setting weekend and Sunday hours.
Motions to approve the special-election early-voting plan and the runoff schedule were moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
What happens next: Staff will implement the approved schedule, post the official locations and hours, and proceed with logistics for the July 28 election and the RLA/audit work tied to the recently certified June 16 results.
